Membership In Both MLS' In Metro Atlanta
After four years in the real estate brokerage business, I have decided to take us to the next level in the start of the fifth year. After all a growing real estate business should always be engaged in providing its agents with the best possible ways to grow their individual businesses.
One way to make this happen is to be a member of both of the major MLS' in metro Atlanta. Georgia MLS is described by some as having a greater concentration of listing activity outside of the Perimeter while FMLS is described is having a greater concentration of listing activity inside the Perimeter. Other brokers and agents tend to the divide the concentration of listing activity at the I 20 Interstate line - Georgia MLS more dominant south of the line and FMLS more dominant north of the line.
in either case being a 'best in class' broker in metro Atlanta means being a member of both MLS'. I have decided to add FMLS to our brokerage this month in celebration of the fifth year of business and to take our business to the next level.
I resisted this change for a while as I did not see the necessity of paying for membership in two MLS'. I reasoned that buyers can see all of the listings via Zillow or Trulia so that solves the problem. But then I saw the flaws in the listing data being passed on to Trulia and Zillow and the frustration experienced by buyers using these BIG BOX websites to search for homes or even being aware that the websites exist. Clearly the better solution is to have our own brokerage website with a feed from both MLS'.
This change is challenging to the agents and me as each MLS has slightly differen rules which we have to learn, understand and adhere to in the practice of real estate. I have emphasized to each agent that we have to embrace this new technology responsibly for the sake of the brokerage and the clients that trust us to help them buy and sell real estate.
So here we come FMLS!
